In spite of its high bubble, Ducati Hyperstrada is not really a GT. On the fast tracks, protection is finally average and the position a little too sport. Ducati does not try besides to mislead us and “sells” this Strada it like an easy and lucid machine for the daily newspaper, and not like a machine trans-Europe.

Healthy, sharp and balanced, Ducati Hyperstrada does not behave as these motorcycles with the castor angle closed which are the “supermodel’”, but rather like a good sporting roadster with the nose gear sure and top-of-the-range braking.

High on legs, Hyperstrada remains Hypermotard. It is equipped better to face the daily newspaper, even if protection leaves something to be desired (especially on the level of legs). Side maintenance notes the more spaced revisions (major to 30,000 km and “small” revision with 15,000). A good point

Identical to that of both other Hypermotard, “wall cupboard” LCD rich in information (computer multifunction), but it misses a gauge of fuel, almost obligatory equipment for a GT… It is ordered via the control unit of right-hand side. Note the height of the trigger guards of handlebar, statements of 20 mm on this model.

Out of reinforced Nylon, the side bags are semi-rigid. They are provided with flexible and tight internal bags. Closing is done by zip and is locked with small locks of cloakroom. It is possible to place integral there cuts XL. Note the saddle “comfort” of series on this model, with the possibility of choosing a low saddle with the order.

The “Ducati Testastretta 821” of this Ducati Hyperstrada is a true delicacy, able to tractor draw in the first third of the rev counter, to push with strength between 4,000 and 5,000 tr/min and to panic like a turbine to 9,000 turns.

With the rate of 12,790 €, Ducati Hyperstrada takes the step on its direct competitors such as for example Triumph Tiger 800 (less expensive but less equipped), even the KTM SMT 990 (200 € less expensive but also less equipped)

Attributes “GT” on an extreme motorcycle? A quite singular idea…

But what the aestheticism lost, the practice gained it. Of origin, Hyperstrada is equipped with two semi-rigid Nylon satchels, a bubble, a central crutch, a more comfortable saddle and less high, of a handlebar raised of 20 mm, handles passenger, mudguards broader, of a driving shoe, heating handles and of two catches 12 V. Question equipment, it is thus of the strapping man.

Electronics is also there, with three driving modes, the “Safety Pack”, composed of ABS and anti-skid, all inter-connected with the selected cartographic mode (Sport, Touring, Urban). The motorcycle being light (204 kg with the full ones), the catch in hand is easy, but the saddle is still a little high (850 mm).

Ergonomics is however disconcerting for a “touring”: one is on the front one, drawn aside arms, very close to the small bubble. Fortunately, one is played easily of the obstacles thanks to the assets of the motorcycle: lightness, balance, engine of good will. Only the gear box is hard and not very pleasant with low mode, but as a whole, to make city with Hyperstrada is more than possible.

Engine of exception

Remain that a “Ducat’” is before a whole sporting machine. At a stretch from left inch let us pass in mode “Sport” on the small Corsican roads. Healthy, sharp and balanced, Ducat’ behaves like a good sporting roadster with the nose gear sure and the top-of-the-range braking, and, especially, equipped with an engine of exception!

GT or not GT

With the wire of the kilometers, protection proves finally very average, the position too sport. Moreover, Ducati “sells” this Strada it like an easy and lucid machine for the daily newspaper, and not like a machine trans-Europe.

Verdict

Proposed with 12,790 €, Hyperstrada is more general-purpose with the daily newspaper than these direct competitors (Triumph Tiger 800, KTM SMT 990), thanks to its many equipment of series and truly remarkable engine!
