It was clear that Joan Barreda would attack with his Honda HRC in the second stage of the Dakar Rally, the longest in test and so it was, taking the win and the lead on teammate Paulo Goncalves.
Already more than 9 minutes Ruben Faria, has been third on the stage while Jordi Viladoms was 4th and Marc ninth Coma 12:32 because of a problem with a tire in the final 60 km of the special.
The leader of the first day, Sam Sunderland, has paid the price of opening track to lose yourself and give 2 hours, so it is almost ruled out for the final victory to the first hurdle.
Joan Barreda: “It has been a hell. The last kilometers have been torture. We were already tired. This last stretch has required a great physical effort. You had to stay very focused. It has been very, very hard. But happy with how the day has gone. It has been an extreme stage, these grounds for disqualification. We have saved it thanks to the approach that we have done. During the first kilometers, Sam has been very strong, but we have remained calm. But we also wanted to keep pace to not detach ourselves from the group in front. With the passage of the kilometers, at the end we have been able to get front. A big stage for Honda. But it was very, very hard. It is also true that we prepare all year for this type of stage.”
Review the last Situation:
After the prologue of yesterday, the 2015 Dakar has started strong for its participants. It was the longest stage of all the rally and has been held between Villa Carlos Paz and San Juan with 518 km special in which pilots already have been able to Qatar the first dunes prior to arrival in goal.
Joan Barreda (Honda) and Marc Coma (KTM) have left behind Sam Sunderland (winner yesterday) and have staged a nice fight in which Joan Barreda has been more aggressive. Little by little the of HRC has scratched seconds to lead the times table until that has been done with its 11th victory in the Dakar. For his part, Marc Coma had bad luck at the end. The stage has been very long and one of your tyres has not endured. Coma had to complete the last 60 kilometers at a speed of only 60 km/h to keep it until the arrival, a circumstance that has made him lose several minutes and finish at the end to 12’32 ” Barreda (8th).
Paulo Gonçalves (HRC) and Ruben Faria (KTM) have reached more than 6 and 9 minutes, respectively of the Castellón, occupying the stage podium, while Jordi Viladoms (KTM) has been fourth. The same four positions of the general of the 2015 Dakar in which Joan Barreda already commands with 4′ are 37 ” advantage.
It should be noted the tenth Joan Pedrero (Yamaha) square to little more than one quarter of hour of Barreda and the spectacular 16th square of Laia Sanz (HRC) 23 minutes late, the same position having overall. Also excellent performances today’s beginners Toby Price and Matthias Walkner, fifth and sixth.
